Project Overview

After our successful partnership for I/O, we continued to work with Google on the global edition of their developer's conference, Developer Days.

This series of one-day events is held in 8 cities around the world to inform developers on the latest advances in Chrome, Android and other Google platforms and services.

To highlight Developer Day's global reach, we created an HTML5 experiment that brought the 8 cities involved together as rotating city skyline illustrations on a 2-d globe. We added real-time local date and time info and weather icons like sun, clouds or rain icons based on the city's forecast. The map includes a few "easter eggs" developers can appreciate like an on-site debugger window and an "x-ray" mode for viewing page layers and changes as the globe turns.

For the 8 individual city pages, we talked directly to developers with localized page content and personalized greetings in each country's language. To show we were dedicated to knowing the developer's hometowns, we crafted infographics out of collected stats, tech facts and local trivia as points of pride. At the actual conference, we took our illustrations and turned them into t-shirts, tweaked for each country, and created presentation elements to keep a consistent visual style, despite the miles that separate each Developer Day.

On a functional note, we made it easy to register and set up a schedule for Developer Days. Registration sits directly on site (with a countdown clock for those Days yet to offer it.) For attending, the "Agenda" section has the ability to create a personalized schedule using Local Store with a handy option to save sessions instantly to Google Calendar.

The pages and unique flavor of Developer Day help strengthen developer unity on a global scale, and created exciting opportunities as these emerging cities create better technology year after year. It's truly innovation celebrating development on a global scale.
